In reading Kathy's comment she appears to express doubts about the
identification of the borer found in the Vancouver area of British
Columbia, west of the Rockies. These insects were identified our
national expert on that particular group of Lepidoptera who works in the
Biosystematics Research Institute, part of the Canadian agriculture
department. I think that it is very unlikely that he would make a
mistake on such a well-known species.
