Close is a relative term, and Staten Island is not overly large, its
extreme dimensions being about 9 miles from north-to-south and 7 miles from
east-to-west, but where Kenneth Smith lived is not a matter of guesswork:
the 1939 AIS Checklist gives his address as 70 Richmond Avenue, and later
Checklists list it as 221 Benedict Road, Dongan Hills. In Staten Island
terms, I would say that neither of these is particularly close to
Richmondtown.

The dukes of Richmond are still around, BTW, and have become eminently
legitimate with time. And the boroughs of Kings (aka Brooklyn) and Queens
were named for the Merry Monarch himself and his much neglected spouse. I
understand there was quite an uproar when a statue of the latter, Catherine
of Braganza, was erected about a year ago on account of the involvement of
her family, the royal house of Portugal, in the slave trade.
All of which is not getting you any closer to RICHMONDTOWN (the iris).
