One thing I did not see mentioned about horsemanure as a fertilizer is
that it usually has a higher seed activity than manure of other
ruminants. Horses tend not to digest as much as others... There was a
thread here about solarization which I would use on a horse manure
prepared bed first. And definitely stay away from fresh manure as it can
burn plants.
