Ouch!!!!  That sends shivers through me.  What I hear is
the blood-curdling sound when a saw blade hits those
staples.
Cabinet-makers who do one-off projects are often on the
look out for back yard trees which have blown down or are
being removed.  Such trees often are treasure houses of
beautiful grains and patterns.  
Discretion has led me, however, to consign the bottom 8' or
so to the fireplace.  Burning such wood seems like an act
of vandalism to me but the personal danger or at least the
expense of repairs, leave me no choice.

Please, mark well any place where you insert metal into a
tree, and then remove it as soon as the need is past. 
Better yet try to think of an altenate method..
