I don't knoww who thought 50 lbs would do 500 sq.ft. - but using that as
criteria, a bed 12' x 24' gives more than 1/2 of 500 sq.ft -- so you'd
need at least 25 lbs - not the 3 lbs from Walmart -- and the 50 lbs cost so
much less and is better. In making or doing over a bed - I use 2 bags (and
I think they are really 40 lbs) of horsepellets along with some peat moss,
horse manure, 0-48-0 (or whatever superphosphate is - use to be 0-30-0),
some trace elements, sometimes epsom salts -- these beds have been used many
years and ----How I wish I had virgin soil instead! Years and years ago,
when I complained to Ben Hager about the decline in my garden, he called to
my attention that probably my soil had lost its virginity! And horse pellets
does help! Rosalie nr Baltimore, USA zone 7 ryfigge@aol.com
