HYB:First Cross 2000

From: "Patrick Orr" <PatrickJOrr@hotmail.com>

Well, today I made the first cross of this year. I used an unknown iris that a friend gave me as the pod parent, and I used the pollen from the Black Hope that was blooming at the nursery down the street. The unknown iris got up to 5 feet tall last year in my friend's yard, but it is blooming short for me this year (only 27"). But, I do not have it in the garden...it is in the gravel area out in the front yard and gets a little water only once a week. My friend said that his was a 2 year old clump and that he had over fertilized it prior to bloom time, which might account for its outrageous height. It was in the 80's today, but a storm front will be coming in bringing cooler weather tomorrow. Check out the cross for yourself at http://www.geocities.com/mskpjo/firstcross.jpg .
