I have always assumed Dominion, etc. above, to have the fall overlay
that comes from I. variegata. It is characterized by application on
the surface of the fall, with the background color solid on the
outside of the fall.
The Honky Tonk Blues type is clearly distinct from that. I didn't
realize that "umbrata" was delimited to that genetic pattern.
What then do we do with the Zing Me line of Barry Blyth? Or is this
a development of the variegata fall too? I somehow doubt that.
The word, "umbrata" seems to be a hybrid of Latin "umbra" (shadow)
and the "-ata" suffix, also from Latin, meaning "like, pertaining to,
resembling." That certainly would fit the HTB types. It fits the
others too, unfortunately. Where's the consensus? But that's your
question, isn't it. I didn't realize that consensus had already been
reached.
