Hello Folks,
Texas Independence Day today, and the usual 'likely to be zapped' bud
showing color on BABY BLESSED. Stalks already killed on DIME SPOT and GOLD
REPRISE. It's the problem with rebloomers here. They frequently attempt
the bloom when there is almost no chance of them not getting knocked over by
a killing freeze - either too early in the spring or too late in the fall.
I did get some good early spring bloom last year, a lot of it before the
late freeze that did come. The arilbreds sure look like they could start
sending up buds too. Many of these also have the knack for getting the
stalks frozen. SUSA, a plant that along with THORNBIRD is about to be
classified hereabouts as an iris weed due to aggressive growth habits, also
has a bud. Too early for this, but I'm impatient for spring anyway. The
plants sure look good right now. Far, far better than this time last year.
Maybe I'll escape scorch victims this year and hope this summer doesn't pan
out to be as inhospitable as the last several have been.
