Ever since the SIGNA seeds arrived--I have been trying to get them
planted--so left the packs on the kitchen table-- did not put them
downstairs where it is cool, or in plant shed where it is cold!!
Friday we started planting them--in 'plant flats'--the kind with many rows
of small troughs to put seeds in--really putting seeds close together--cause
usually many do not sprout.
Now, I do believe in what people write for here--but all the fuss ahead of
time for the seeds--putting them in little bags in the toilet tank--etc--I
never have had the time to do--so we were going to plop them into the trays
and then put the trays outside--in the snow and cold--so they could
climatize--and maybe some time some sprouts will appear.
we planted till late--then off to bed--did not take time to cover the seeds
with planting mix--next morning, my husband got to the kitchen first--and he
let out a shriek for me to come to the kitchen--when I got there--he was
pointing at one of the troughs we had planted the night before--I thought
that maybe the cat had gotten into it and mixed up all the seeds--but
no--there was a row of about 10 seeds--shiny black--with at least 7 of them
showing little white sprouts!
I have been planting seeds for years and iris seeds for years--and never
had any sprout overnight! The seeds had looked a little moist or shiny like
covered with oil--but several of the seed packets had seeds which looked the
same--and we were just plopping them in to the little rows.
I expect that the other seeds will take a longer time to germinate--but I am
willing to wait for the new sprouts--
the ones which germinated overnight --actually about 9 hours--were SIGNA
