Neil,

The aphylla's come from the area you mention also come from Ukraine, Russia,
and northern Turkey.  They got to have a freeze. Like Linda said about the
leaves is true. There is no leaves on the stalk on a lot of them. It just
depends where they come from.
It is like the pumila's. The one's on the Alps side are taller than the
one's from Russia and the Ukraine. The Alps side height is 4 to 6 inches
from the ground of the bloom. The one's from Russia and the Ukraine are 2 to
4 inches tall from the ground. The leaves are smaller on the Russia and
Ukraine pumila's. This holds true with the aphylla's too.
