Betty,
     During the 17 springs I lived in Lexington, KY, I can recall only twice 
in which the early Magnolias actually succeeded at blooming--then they got 
froze...  Are those the stellata or soulangia Magnolias you are thinking of.  
We were down to 36 F this morning, but that thankfully is no freeze.  They 
are predicting that temperature again tonight, so the Irises are back inside 
to be on the safe side.
      Potted WINTERLAND is in bloom, potted TEA LEAVES, WINESAP, and 
REINCARNATION are loaded with buds.
