John:  Call an 'organic' nursery and see if they don't
have a light summer oil spray that will kill scale.  I
hate using poisons, too, but can't give up my "Bug
Bait" to kill snails, slugs, pill bugs & grasshoppers.
 I've never used an oil spray but I know the real
organic people use it for scale.

Forgot to say in last two posts re: growing the LAs in
the shade.  This works because of the intensity of the
TX summer sun!
