I would also echo vince's comments about ROARING JELLY (Sib). This
siberian is one of the very best and makes a magnificent clump. I have
grown it for 4 or 5 years now, and it never fails to put on a wonderful
show. It is a very floriferous siberian, has wonderful foliage, blooms
over a long period and rapidly forms a very very nice clump. If you
have not seen this siberian in bloom, its worth a trip to do just that.
It will not disappoint you. For sheer beauty and unfailing consistency,
ROARING JELLY can definitely compete well with any other iris in
contention for the Dykes Medal.

Another couple of favorite non-TBs on the list of irises to be voted on
for the Dykes: Consider VAVOOM (SDB). This is another very
floriferous iris, makes a great showing a couple of weeks before the
Tall Beardeds are in full bloom. A border row of VAVOOM is a sight to
behold. VAVOOM is, without a doubt in my mind, worthy of a Dykes
Medal. And I know that discussing a Japanese Iris in regards to the
Dykes Medal is impossibly wishful thinking, but BELLENDER BLUE has done
wonderfully for me, even here on the Great Plains, where our annual
rainfall is about 29 inches. Of course, the JIs do get considerably
extra water, but to not only survive here, but to also grow well and
bloom well is unusual for a Japanese iris. This one does it. It is
very tall and stately and absolutely stunning in bloom. Any JI that can
withstand the extremes of temperature and humidity here in Nebraska is
special.

My 2 cents worth from this neck of the woods (or field as it were).

Lincoln, Nebraska Zone 4/5 Where there's no sign of iris growth
here yet!
