UH, LET ME CLARIFY...I meant the rhizome I got BEFORE I got JB's was the one
I believed to be weak...I have high hopes for the whopping size ones I did
get from John and he sent them just out of the kindness of his heart...they
look healthy so far...and I'm treating them pretty nicely. The interresting
part (to me) was that I'd read she needed a slighly more alkaline soil, and
JB said they grew like a weed for him in slightly acid soil (I have the
latter). Go figure.
And BTW know what you mean with late freezes, because my mom used to
complain about years we got that in NJ...it wasn't often, but sometimes it
damaged the azaleas and a few other flowering bushes. Our redbud tree is
blooming, several more azaleas starting and we COULD still get a near freeze.
Last year by now I had an SDB or two starting to bloom and a TB or two
starting to form stalks down in the fans. We're nowhere close to that this
year. Today it started off at 63 degrees and got up to 72. Warmer
tomorrow and Friday so I'll be eagerly eyeing those fans...
