Cutworms: very effective for me is a dusting of rotenone insecticide, an organic pesticide, around the base of the plant and/or on the plant. itself. Takes care of other things, too, such as katydids, grasshoppers, cabbage worms, bean beatles, or squash beatles. I buy it in any of a number of local stores under the trade name of Garden Guard, but no doubt there are other companies selling it under their own label. I usually buy a 4 lb. bag (rather than the l lb. canister) for $8-9, and dusted with a mechanical duster like Dustin Mizer it goes a long way. A knowledgable gardener friend of mine mixes it half/half with ordinary flour and says it does just as well, but I've never tried that myself.
If you can get diatomaceous earth, you can spread that around the plants, too, and the sharp little particles in that will pierce the skin of the worms, which will then die. This, too, is an organic product.
