Re: Re: HYB: GMO's; att. Neil and Kitty

Well, Neil -- Talk about coincidence! I just returned from our March
Chesapeake and Potomac Iris Society meeting, where Don Spoon, during an
entertaining lecture on breeding for a red iris, showed us a descendancy
chart that featured spotted and unspotted goats, and mentioned obliquely
that he had once entertained thoughts of studying for the ministry. When I
returned home and saw your message (below), I figured that witty shepherd
you mentioned must have been Biblical. So I grabbed the good book and went
digging. Sure enough, the shepherd was Jacob, and the boss was his uncle
Laban (Genesis 30-31.)

So, Kitty, verily I say unto you, if one of your nosy neighbors comes into
your garden to challenge the heritage of one of the cultivars therein,
simply tell him or her that you received it from a space alien who assured
you that it is a genetically unmodified species that once grew on Mars and
that he had been keeping it preserved in his spacecraft until he found just
the right garden in which to deposit it. Anyone who believed the rationale
for adopting Mendocino County's anti-GMO measure should believe your story,
too. -- Griff
