Re: HIST:Iris Identity Theft? Prince Charming

I have found this thread particularly interesting.

I have a seedling that was named and registered as DESERT SMOKE in 1959, then
introduced through a *Bulletin* ad in the spring of 1960. As it bloomed that
spring, I realized I had been in error in presenting this one to the market
and withdrew it, returned the funds to those who ordered it with an apology,
then destroyed the stock and vacated the name--but never notified the
registrar at the time, nor any of those serving in the role of the withdrawal.
That would have been orderly and appropriate, but it didn't occur to me to be
a necessary action.

I suppose I might find it difficult to transfer the name now should I have a
seedling worthy of distribution to which this name might be appropriate. I
don't have any particular affection for the name and doubt its being
particularly attractive to a buyer anyway. I am also absolutely sure the cv
is not extant--I made sure of that!
