"Introduction is the offering for sale to the public. Catalogs, printed
lists, and avertisements in the American Iris Society Bulletin are acceptable
means of introduction...A variety is not eligible for listing on the awards
ballot until after it has been recorded as introduced by the
Registrar-Recorder. Send the Registrar a copy of your list, catalog or
advertisement by first class mail so verification of introduction can be
made...." *Bulletin of the American Iris Society*, Vol. LXXXVI, No. 1, Series
No. 336, January 2005, p. 17.
It is clear the intent is that the *originator.* not just anyone, is the one
who has the responsibility for submitting the qualifying advertisement.
Those rare exceptions that have occurred have been through a procedure to
rectify a defect or omission in the existing records. An example illustrating
the exception has to do with TEUCROS, an RC hybrid only recently entered into
the registry, although in commerce for many decades.
