Took me a minute to sort this question out - I knew I didn't use the
propane torch, but when I read what you quoted, it says I did... most
confusing...
I bought the torch, and have an extra tank, but it just seemed like a
lot of work to drag it around when the older clumps had plenty of dead
foliage to carry a fire without adding fuel.
The wired on paraffin soaked starter stick was just an easy, lightweight
substitute.
If/when I burn green or wet foliage, or trying to kill weeds, I will
definitely use the propane torch.
I guess the basic answer is I like to play (experiment), & the tank &
torch seemed too much like work.

stick dipped in gasoline, then a piece of commercial
'Fire Starter'
(paraffin saturated pressed sawdust/wood
chip/newspaper "sticks") wired
to the end of a stick, which worked extremely well>
