Linda, Your experience with JESSE"S SONG must be unique. In the several
years before it won the Dykes I saw it performing in scores of gardens all
over the U.S....including New York, Pa, and MI. It was performing
magificently everywhere it was growing. In fact, some judges were
disinclined to vote the Dykes for it because they expressed views that its
form and color were less than "exciting." But it was, I believe, the great
vigor, consistent outstanding performance, and outstanding habits of JESSE'S
SONG that led to its attaining the Dykes.
Sometimes each of us does have unique experiences with even outstanding
cultivars. My "problem" has been SONG OF NORWAY. Everyone I know here in VA
has wonderful results with this great iris. And I have seen it performing
well across the U.S. at AIS Conventions and regional meetings in such areas
as Ohio, Nebraska, and PA. I early on concluded that my experience is a
fluke. In any event, if there is a great iris for performance during the
last decade I would have to believe it is JESSE'S SONG. I would really like
to hear if others have had different or similar experience with it. Clarence
