Linda, I can provide another suggestion that some people follow to keep those
big fat rhizomes from rotting back here in the East. Plant them initially in
pots with good "composty" porous soil, and let them leach out for a month or
two as they start their growth. Some people swear by this technique, which
is a bit more time consuming than I like...that is why I let them dry out for
