Very exciting to have Scott Aitken join us here... but if there was an e-mail
address, I sure missed it.
I received a letter some time ago from Terry asking for input... and I've
given him my 2 cents worth - and that of our local club (we took a mail poll
"what do you like best about the Bulletin, least, what do you wish for, etc).
I find that - at least in this area - most folks do NOT enjoy the endless "I
went into the garden and Dusky Challenger was stupendous..." blah, blah,
blah. Most people don't enjoy the indepth science articles either. I
personally skip right over the stamp articles.
Most folks want to know HOW TO GROW AN IRIS! We're looking for experiments -
organic methods, chemical remedies, (John Coble says... if it works, it's an
experiment... if it doesn't, it's a mistake). soil amendments.. that kind of
stuff. People want to know how to grow them and they're also interested in
the folks who have made this all possible... the hybridizers! We've done a
few hybridizer interviews that were GREAT reading and very interesting.
After all, don't the plants reflect the breeder?
People want the 'girlie pages'... that is, color pictures. People like robin
excerpts... people like very basic information like Bill Maryott put in last
month's journal.
I'm keenly interested in promoting membership... I would like to see the
Bulletin more user friendly so that maybe the new members would benefit as
much as the long termers.
Whew....
Kathy Guest - with a nerve hit.
