Re: GREAT EXCITEMENT

Dear Clarence: I had just talked to Joan before coming on the iris-L. How
thoughtful of you and Rosalie , to let everyone know. It was 75 today, and
Clarence, there are buds on the SDB's !!! March 1 !!! Surely we cannot hope
to escape with no more freezes ??? If the season continues to be so early,
the Convention date will be far too late for my garden. I knew all along that
it was late, and most of my things (seedlings especially), would be gone. We
had our meeting a week ago today. I waited until the end of the meeting, and
then mentioned that everything pointed to an early spring. Roy replied that
it would be a late season; (God had revealed it in a dream???) Pardon my
spleen, but it really seems a return to the old persecution against rebloom,
and my position as a hybridizer. Everything has been set up, of course, and
a very , very good rate for the College Weekend. But all those judges are
going to see next to nothing, and even nothing here. Sad! But I can bear it,
for I have had lots of practice, and the more general acceptance certainly
is a balm for temporary woes. Clarence, I have been asked to speak in
Delaware on April 20. It is necessary to get excused from a wedding, so it
may not come through. Rebloomers and Space-Agers. Any suggestions from you
for Judges Training would be welcome! Lloyd, which rhymes with Avoid, but
hopefully not A Void.
