Re: Louisianas

I have wondered if growing LAs from seed would work better. How

Some LA hybridizers do remove the corky covering from the seed,
but I am so clumsy I damage the enbryo. For me in MS, I have found that I
get good germination if I plant the LA seeds when the pod starts to yellow
in late June or early July. I have planted in open trenches and in pots
but prefer the pot method. Some seed will sprout in Sept. or Oct. These
tiny seedlings must be protected from cold. Bring the pot indoors or
inside a greenhouse. Having neither, I sink the pot in the ground and
mulch heavily. In the early spring I line them out. A few have bloomed
in the fall on maiden bloom, but have never returned to fall bloom again.

	Good luck!
