cloning irises

Hi, I am surfacing again.

With all the talk of cloning, and I think of a few on this list I would love
to see cloned, and a BUNCH of politicians I would NOT want to see cloned...

Can irises be cloned? I buy most of my orchids as stem or root tip "clone"
propagations. I know irises are much easier to get to go to seed, and to
sprout from seed without incredible amounts of "other assistance", so there
is not the "need" like there is in orchids.

However, would you not be able to then have many, many plants of guaranteed
parentage, ie: same plant..? Is this good or bad for business?

Thanks for the great thread by Sharon McA and Tom on the breeding lately. I
really appreciate the info, tho I will never put it to use. But it helps me
understand "how did they do that?" that I always ask.
