plant one, wait three years, dig it up, and give away the increases.

As for the more high-tech sort of cloning, aka "tissue culture" this is
possible with irises, but I suspect it is not deemed economically viable.
Irises are relatively cheap, increase well, and aren't that popular. [Tom

As I alluded to, this is actually the current state of affairs. Each named
variety is a clone, and all plants are identical.
