Mark Cook asked what the plant was on the right of the front cover of the
January bulletin. It is Geranium sanguineum, or one of its forms. Easy plants
to grow and very hardy here - native to most of north west Europe and the UK.
Probably hardy to about zone 5 I would guess, maybe colder. The colour is a
bit bright for some people - try the form striatum (=lancastriense) which is
shell pink or the lovely Glenluce which is Dog-Rose pink if you prefer
something more subtle.
They like sun or light shade and any good open soil.
