I too have experienced this malady occasionally and although we do not
get frosts heavy enough to damage TBs at bloom time we do get the
occasional cold snap. In discussions with other iris folk locally we
have concluded that the condition is most likely mechanical, caused by
abnormal weather. In general we think of ourselves as living in a
temperate littoral climate but the South Pole is not so very far away and
occasionally makes its presence felt.
