>I note that others have been researching SIGNA from more recent times so
if I state my findings in earlier issues that should about keep folk
happy:
1. There is a brief table showing temperature, moisture, light and soil
factors for some 26 species in SIGNA #3. It covers one page and I could
copy it out if anyone is interested.
2. There is a two page article "Some Random Thoughts on Seed Germination"
by Bob Raabe in SIGNA #23, p. 719, and a three page article "Planting
Iris Seed Down Under" by Gordon Loveridge on p.721.
3. SIGNA #24 has 30 pages devoted to seed management, edited by Bruce
Richardson and including an older but hard to get article by Dr Randolph
embodying exhaustive treatment of the subject of inhibitors and what can
be done about them - "Factors Influencing the Germination of Iris Seed
and the Relation of Inhibiting Substances to Embryo Dormancy". There is
also a significant article on the culture of Louisiana irises by Joseph
Mertzweiler and a Key to the Sections of the Genus Iris from the B.I.S.
Species Group.
4. SIGNA #25 carries further comments and articles prompted by #24.
IMHO purchase of SIGNA #24 and #25 if still available would be well
worthwhile. If O.P. then no doubt photocopies can be provided preferably
by someone at least in the right hemisphere, but at a pinch by me.
