My interest got the best of me and I got to thinking, what have I lost?
So, I decided to count. First off, I divided all of my irises last Aug
and replanted, plus the new ones that I acquired. Deer seem to be
pestering me alot this year, pulling the plant right out of the ground
and either dropping it, eating it or carting it off. Then I think
someone's pig got into my front bed and did a lot of uprooting. Either
that or some animal that roots. Also, it was a hot Aug and alot of my
rhisones were getting to be in pretty bad shape by the time I got them
in the ground.
My tabs say I lost 72 TBs out of 1729 plants and 3 intermediates and
drawfs out of 123.
In a normal year, I would say my loss is about 1% when I don't divide.
I would die if I had Linda's loss. Of course, many are not going to
bloom this year.
