Wow, this list is a never-ending source of knowledge. I found a CUTWORM
eating on one of my TBs yesterday as I was removing the pine bough mulch and
replanting (!) rhizomes. I had not seen this before.
The BAD news is, the cutworm damage is minor compared to this year's
freeze-thaw damage. It is the most extensive here in years. Many rhizomes
were out of the ground except for the last inch of root. The ones newly
planted last year or reset, and especially the small ones--SBD, MTB, etc.,
were especially severely affected. This is the price we pay for a
relatively mild winter, with virtually no snow cover.
