>From the WOL(World of Iris): Bulbous irises are relatively easy to grow
from seed if you have the patience, for it usually takes about four
years to bloom them.  Seed should be sown as soon as ripe. They will
germinate in the fall.  It is best to sow the seed in large pots or in
boxes, so that the seedlings will not have to be disturbed until the
second year, when the bulbs will be almost the size of a pea.  If seed
is sown in the open, too many bulbs will be lost when you attempt to dig
them.
