Welcome to the Iris List. I have lived in Florida since the end of
last September. In fact, I am not too terribly far from the University of
Florida. I am in Dunnellon, Florida, which is about 40 miles from
Gainesville if you take the short route through Williston. I am in the
process of trying to see what kind of Irises will grow here.

I am also an avid gardener back in Colombia, my

I once read that an Iris called WHITE LIGHTNING could be grown in
Bogota. I don't have this plant, but I am thinking about trying it. I
would think that the African Iris (Dietes), Tiger Eye Iris (Trimezia), and
the Walking Iris (Neomarica) would grow in your climate. I am assuming
that you are in a high altitude, but freeze free (or nearly so) when you
are home in Columbia.

Also, where can I get seeds for these? It would be much easier for me to
take

You may be able to get some seeds from members of the Species Iris
Group of North America, or from some of the hybridizers who are members of
this list.

I am fairly new to Florida, so I am learning about things that will
and will not grow here, too. I used to live in Kentucky, which is a much
different climate.
Once again, welcome to the Iris List. Other than you and I, I think
there is only one other Iris-L member in Florida.
