There have been approximately 45,000 iris registered with the American
Iris Society since 1920. So to try and identify a purple iris is next to
impossible unless it has some unique trait. However the Historic Iris
Preservation Society (HIPS) has a ID chairman who grows over 1200
historic iris and has probably seen 10 times that many and will either
accept a photo or actually grow a piece of your plant and try to
identify it. His name and address is Philip Edinger, PO box 637,
Cloverdale CA 95425.

And if you are interested in joining HIPS, contact Ada Godfrey, 9
Bradford ST., Foxborough, MA 02035. Membership $5.00 single annual.

Also, welcome to the iris-L.
