Re: How do you order?

In a message dated 98-03-28 01:41:09 EST, Marte in the Mountains writes lots
of stuff about drifts of irises then says:

Marte - your iris virus disease progression has not advanced yet. Here's a
description of what that disease can do (that I lifted off another list)

Horticulture Creed (Could be Greed!)

1. I want it.

2. I want it all.

3. I want it now.

4. If it will not grow in my zone or is prohibitively
expensive, I want it most of all.

5. I am perfectly willing to forego any necessities of life
such as food for my children in order to have it.

6. I recognize my horticultural dependency.

7. I recognize your horticulture dependency.

8. I will willingly aid and abet your dependency, as you will
mine.

9. This makes us infinitely happy.

10. Any money saved by virtue of comparison shopping equals
found money and therefore is not counted as spending.

11. If everyone else has it, I must have it too.

12. If I have planted everything that I have purchased, I must
immediately buy more plants.

(Written by Denise Beck and James Delahanty and published in
Allan Lacy's journal, Homeground.)

NOW... having said that, let me say THIS...... you don't need to plant
irises in drifts.... they (the talls anyway) are specimen plants in their own
right... and will quickly form a clump.

All irises look good mixed. I discovered one year when I planted monochrome
beds, that irises were meant to be mixed. You might pay attention to what
iris you plant next to each other to enhance them both... but you may happily
mix them all.

The same goes for siberians and japanese irises. I see no reason to buy more
than one of a cultivar.... besides, then you can get more <BG>

My advise to you is to order what you can't live without for now.... then take
extensive notes during the convention and the rest of iris season..... by then
you'll have formed some VERY definite opinions... that will change each year.

Kathyguest.... been there, got the teeshirt. Motto: whatever's in bloom is
what I like best.
