Don't waste time getting that (probably) botrytis out of there. I carry a
spoon in my back pocket when I do my March iris cleaning, and when I find
botrytis I dig it out of the clump, leaving healthy tissue exposed to the air.
This almost always works.
Also, it is a good idea to check your rebloomers after you get a hard freeze
and cut out any aborted bloomstalks.
