Re: HYB: Reblooming MTB-Class ABs

From: "S & C Rust" <srust@fidnet.com>

Clarence, we are overwhelmed by your kind comments of Stephanie. Thank
you! We do enjoy her, she is a sweet child. She will be delighted to know
that you enjoyed plays when you were in school. Congratulations to you on
your son, who is already a doctor, becoming a Colonel! Stephanie has a lot
going for her as a hybridizer. She is young, and she has the help of so
many in the AIS, like yourself and others on this list. I have raised
horses for many years. People that I have known for years and exhibited
with for years are shocked that my children have never shown horses. I
seldom even take them to view a horse show. The reason is that these
people are so super competitive, and winning is so important to them, that
it is all they think of. They are jealous of their knowledge and would
never think to help someone else who is learning, because that person might
place higher than they do. Worst, the horse's welfare is often the last
thing considered. I no longer breed and show horses for profit, because I
could never learn to put money above the horse's welfare. An adult can
safely show a horse, because they are aware of the poor priorities of the
majority (not all!) of the exhibitors, and will compete to perform to the
best of their and their horse's abilities, not "against" the other horses
and exhibitors. The AIS is the best possible atmosphere for children (and
adults!) that I have ever seen. Each one of you makes this true, and we
are so grateful for all of you.

Cindy Rust, Zone 5b, Missouri. I know, John, this letter is too long! I
apologize in advance!
