Hello! I am glad to find this list. I live in Louisville, Kentucky, Zone 6,
or as one of our local authors calls it, "The Zombie Zone". If a perennial
thrives here, it is a good one. Our main problem is the wintertime yo-yo
temperatures; our springs and summers are pretty unpredictable, too, with wide
variations in precipitation and temperature. It is an interesting challenge
to garden here!
My husband, Dean, and I have been members of the Louisville Area Iris Society
for between ten and fifteen years and joined A.I.S. several years ago. We are
both garden judges and are looking forward to some more traveling, now that we
are both retired. I have just finished my second two-year term as president
of L.A.I.S. It was a joy, but what a relief to pass the gavel on to our very
capable new president!
Today I made our hotel reservations for the convention in Oklahoma City and
have our registration ready to go out in Monday's mail. Our first convention
was year before last in Dearborn -- fun, but late bloom season, so not too
many irises. We did not make the Denver one last year. I was glad to see
Perry Dyer's report today -- bring on the blooms!
In reading some of your Archives, I see several names that I recognize and a
few that I have met and see from time to time. Bob Strohman (of the "Indian
Hills" discussion) is a good friend of ours and he was surprised to find out
from Janet Hawel that his Roots hybridizer article had been a topic of
discussion here. He is working on completing his series on Louisville
hybridizers of the past and I imagine he will send it, too, along to Roots.
I am looking forward to some lively discussions in this group!
