Re: Reasons for Joing AIS

From: "S & C Rust" <srust@fidnet.com>

Steve,

Bob and Leslie gave a lot of good reasons for joining A.I.S. My initial
reason for joining AIS was so that I could join the RIS! That is probably
unusual. I also wanted to learn as much about iris as I could in the
comfort of my own home. I was unaware at the time how many different kinds
of iris there were, but it didn't take long to find out. I also hoped for
information about where to order more catalogs, and I got that in spades.
I never counted on meeting such a great group of people, and it was not a
priority. I never considered myself a very social person by nature, but I
guess that just depends on the topic! The people are a major reason I like
to be involved in the AIS now. They are the most sharing, generous and
kind group I've ever been around, bar none. Between my daughter and
myself, we belong to almost every section. The only sections we don't
belong to are the Society for Pacific Coast Natives (we figure we haven't
even a chance of growing these) and the Tall Bearded because we think the
bulletin covers them pretty well, and we don't even know if they are a
section or a cooperating society. We will join the TB as soon as they
decide what they will be, unless it causes harm to the AIS.
