Re: AIS: Early Years and Current Assumptions

From: "Perry Dyer" <pdyer@flash.net>

Whew! It just took me an HOUR to read through all this TBIS/AIS Cooperating
Society/Section "predicament". I do hope we all have it out of our systems
by now.....One thing about, it sure sparked some "interest" in iris-talk.
Some of it I chuckled at. Some of it peeved me. Whatever.

Big-mouth here has just got to get one "shot" in though (those of you who
know me say, "so what's new"): I just wish those JUDGES who grow only TB's
would gracefully excuse themselves when they're judging shows and they come
to the non-TB classes. Like, the Oklahoma City show where "they" gave blue
ribbons to a RED Clyde Redmond and a YELLOW Ann Chowning (no big deal, just
the two most famous Louisianas in history). Or the show where a panel of
judges MASSACRED the arilbred class (I was so disgusted and embarrassed that
I scheduled an arilbred program and judges training school later that year,
but unfortunately most of the "offenders" didn't show up, naturally). My
philosophy, after 35 years of growing irises and 25 years as an AIS judge,
is that you have to "LIVE" with an iris (and a particular class of irises)
before you can be a good judge of those irises. You'll never catch me
judging a Jap show, cuz I am embarrassingly ignorant of the group. Nor
would I dream of voting that part of the ballot until I learn how to
successfully grow that section of irises.

Food for thought. And surely stirred 'em up some more.
