Thanks Jan, Will and Anner for your prompt replies, re. I. schachtii.
Jan and Will for cultural advice, and Anner for descriptive info. I'm a
bit nervous about this one, as the person who gave it to me does not
hand it out to many people. She said I would need to give it more water
that a TB as it has its roots closer to the surface like a SDB. This
conflicts a little with what the others said, although what you might
call dry in parts of Europe and the US may be considerably more moist
than here. The leaves had wilted slightly in the 24 hours since it was
dug up, compared with the TB's which showed no sign of wilting at all.
Sandy soil, sunshine, lime and fertiliser I have in abundance. For the
time being this plant is in a pot, and I will leave it there until it's
roots have become established.
If this specimen survives, and flowers, I will self it for some seeds.
It will be interesting to see if I get a few different colours or if
they are all the same. Some interspecies crosses might be interesting.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again, Jan Clark
