I had to go look this trinket up after reading Jan's enthusiatic post about
it.

Looks like it is a little pogon---- bearded-----iris species native to Asiatic
Turkey. Semi-herbaceous. The description at hand says it is new to commerce
and the color varies from " violet, through purple with bluish or yellow
beards, and shades of yellow with yellow beards and often rather purplish,
greenish, or cream markings on the falls, to white." Runs about eight inches
tall with leaves a bit longer.

The info above is from Species Irises: Their Identification and Cultivation,
edited by the BIS Species Group, and published by Cambridge in 1996.

I'd encourage it to set some seeds myself. Might get an interesting little
colony going.
