Re: AIS: A Modest Proposal

From: "Perry Dyer" <pdyer@flash.net>

Walter, we don't want you to feel abandoned (or neglected), so I'll chime
in. I like the idea too. I would like to revise the idea somewhat by
saying, at least for the first symposium or two, add the symposium winners
for the past year or two in the Median Iris Society, Siberian, Louisiana,
and whomever else has one. This would be in addition to those recent award
winners. That might make it too bulky, but you'd pick up some of the
"classics" being considered such as Chubby Cheeks, White Swirl, Ann
Chowning, etc., etc. I don't belong to the spuria section. Do they conduct
an annual symposium also?

I say let's have one big free-for-all, through them all in the kettle, and
see what kind of stew we come up with. Could be fun. Then maybe TB IS
could evolve and conduct the annual TB symposium (after they get big enough
to really get enough votes to give a better sort on the results), with AIS
pulling their symposium results in just like the sections.

Thanks, Chris. I was beginning to wonder if anybody read the post.
You are the only one to respond, and I do appreciate your sending in
along to Clarence Mahan. I do hope I hear from him about it. It
will take a lot of grass roots efforts to get the ball rolling on
this, but I believe it is a wise and fair proposal. I think I said
something about using the Judges' ballot as a part of the original
symposium ballot. I meant to say the results of the Judges' ballot,
which certainly would reduce the numbers eligible. I had thought the
response on this would have been much greater, so I am disappointed
somewhat. At least, I have one follower, which makes me feel better
for having made the post.
