Re: CULT: spring fertilizing

From: S&C Rust <srust@fidnet.com>

Linda, I fertilize arils and arilbreds in February, because Luella
Danielson said to do so! I use a more expensive fertilizer on these
that contains an insecticide that is very lethal on aphids for 21/2
months. I also give them alfalfa meal or pellets at this time. I give
them some weak Miracle Grow whenever they look like they need it. I
also do the MDBs near the end of February. I go easy on actual
fertilizer with them, they get alfalfa meal or pellets, maybe some lime
and bulb food. It is easy to force them out of class. The SDBs, IBs,
are getting alfalfa meal and general fertilizer now. Also, am beginning
to water and feed Japanese; this class demands a lot of care all year,
but the blooms are worth it. The siberians are so easy to grow and so
spectacular, that they just get worked in whenever I have a spare
moment. The MTBs require little more than alfalfa pellets. The BBs and
TBs are touchier. This is done differently each year, depending on what
I think weather conditions are likely to be. I am not always correct
about this, but alfalfa meal or pellets are hard to mess up with.
