Yes, Monty's demise is such a loss for AIS and iris breeding. Lord only
knows what he would've thought up by now, had he lived. But what a legacy
he has left. I truly think one of the reasons his things DID become so
popular was because he spilled the beans and told it the way he saw it, good
or bad. I think growers respect that more than the average introducer
realizes. They're so afraid they'll "jinx" the iris or cause sales to fall
off, that they won't take the chance.
And I bet ol' Monty is "up there", lookin' down on us, just laughing and
thrilled that two of his babies won Dykes Medals, back-to-back. Mesmerizer
will have a good shot at it too, I think.
