I wish to "second the motion" on Cranapple. FANTASTIC here last year.
Healthy, exceedingly vigorous, beautiful blue-green foliage. Show stalks
throughout the clump, but still impressive in the garden setting (they
didn't crowd each other out). Rich, rich color. Simple but acceptable
form. From the looks of its vigor and plant habits here, I'll bet it'll do
well in all zones.
Has anyone bred with it? I bet I made 50 crosses onto it, and didn't get a
single "take". But then, I was doing some pretty weird (for me) things with
it. Sometimes across is just SO wide that I think God just laughs, and sez,
"nice try -- don't think so, buckaroo!"
