Seems like show bench judging can be very subjective. I saw a stalk of
Chickasaw Sue which had almost received a blue ribbon, but was disqualified
for being grown out-of-class at 29". So, the gardener should apologize for
growing it too well? To me, most border beardeds are just stunted would-be
TB's anyway. Some TB's (ROCK STAR, SUCCESS STORY, etc.) should probably be
BB's I saw one iris show at which almost all of the TB stalks were
malnourished 16'' specimens with 3 1/2" flowers. Seems the local juges
preferred it that way and were marking down the taller, well-branched
stalks. And how do you judge an intermittant space-age iris, if the
flowers are strong and healthy but not horny today. Should you not
introduce an iris with inconsistent horns, even if it is beautiful both
ways?

Hi Rosalie,
My SEASON TICKET virtually always shows 4S and 4F on the first terminal
bloom of almost every stalk. Other blooms are normal.
I asked Rick Tasco and Roger Duncan at Superstition Iris Gardens about
it and they said theirs does the same thing.
Now here is the tricky question. SEASON TICKET with 4F and 4S as per
above appears on the show bench. Since it typically grows that way, do
you judge it or disqualify it? Worse, if a 3F and 3S SEASON TICKET
appears on the show bench, do you disqualify it for being undergrown?
