Hi Beth,
Species tulips can take care of themselves. The hybrid types like the
parrots need to be divided.
Wait till after the leaves turn brown then dig and sort the bulbs. Toss any
that look injured or nibbled. Bulbs should be spaced out at least 3" apart
when replanted. Large ones will bloom next year, small ones will take
anywhere from 1 year to 2 to reach blooming size.
One happy tulip can turn into dozens within a few years.
