OT: New Virus
I am forwarding the text of some of the
information I have received today on a new worm.

A new virus is making the rounds and has already
affected areas
of
Asia/Europe and is just getting into New York. It
is an extremely fast
spreader, and from what they've said so far is one
of those that e-mails
everyone in your address book (like Melissa). And
it sends up to 300
messages at a shot!
They are calling it the "Love Bug" because the
subject header is usually
"I Love You" or "Love Letter from Me". Again
there is an attachment
included that will not only send e-mail, but will
corrupt/change names
on
*.jpg, *.mp3 and *.mpg files.
Do not open any mail with "I Love You" or "Love
Letter" in the subject
line!

This appears to be real. It's hit hard and fast
across the globe, starting
in
East Asia this morning. It's caught the
anti-virus folks off-guard, so
there's
not a fix yet. The virus is called ILOVEYOU.A
(reports also indicate it
could be called other names, too, but all seem to
start with ILOVEYOU)
that appears in the form of an e-mail attachment
by that name. If you
receive such a message delete it immediately. If
you open it, will
download VBScript files that will begin sending
the infected attachment
to anyone you have in you personal address book or
contact list. Once
you are infected it will not be easy to scrub it.
