In response to the Cygon questions, I've had some experience with it, as have
several of our local daylily folk...
To my knowledge, it's one of the strongest things left on the market to use
on iris and daylilies. Spray when it is cool and there is no or little wind
and preferably as close to dark of night or right after dawn as possible.
Make sure all wildlife is locked up (like cats and the like)...
They always say on spider mites (for example) to spray the underside of the
foliage (especially daylilies) but I never could figure out how to do that
without killing myself (and I was already masked...)
I just sprayed ONE time and it definitely was noticeable. It's hard on
everything, especially the foliage. It can buurn daylily foliage pretty
easily. Neither bloom nor buds, however, didn't seem to be impacted. I
don't remember it bothering the iris foliage quite so badly.
I won't use it again, however, unless I'm really infected with a bunch of
critters in a major devastative kind of way. The next morning when I went
out and saw the dead robin laying by the big concrete corner garden pot
taught me the lesson... If it kills birds that easily, I will stick with my
insecticidal ivory soap and let the critters do what they want... Since then
I use a lot of ladybugs and don't worry about much else... Most critter
problems are taken care of over winter and don't actually kill the plants
anyway... I also worry about things becoming resistant so easily.
I know others who use it sparingly around here. Other things they have used
in the past just became prohibitively expensive or disappeared from the
market. One daylily fanatic was using a two compound mixture that ran about
$150.00 with every application. Like I said, give me my ivory and my
ladybugs and I don't worry about the rest...
